What responsibilities did Billy have as Chairman of the Board?
Goodwin: The normal responsibilities. He would sit in and offer his expertise on where he thought we wanted to go and how we were going to do it. But we three really ran the company as a committee. I had the say so in finance. I really didn’t have any in marketing because Sam Mays had that responsibility. Carl Swanson ran the plant. We would all sit down in extensive, strategic planning sessions and discuss where Club Car was going and how we’re going to get there. I think that was one of the great success stories of the company. George Inman had the final say and would on occasion give direction when needed. Norm: Did Billy then get into marketing too? Goodwin: Yes, he got into sales and became interested in the gas program. He knew about Harley Davidson. We knew that the industry was changing and the gas car was making a big impact in the industry, primarily because Yamaha’s G1 was a good vehicle.
