What resolution or digital image size is required for a quality enlargement?

Much of what you may have heard about minimum resolutions, megapixels and/or file sizes required to achieve high quality at specific enlargement sizes is no longer relevant if you just take the superior technology and expertise available at APC and run with it. In the vast majority of instances, our advanced image interpolation software allows us to make dramatic enlargements – even from relatively modest file sizes – without a significant degradation in quality. We realize that to some of our customers, that answer will sound conveniently simplistic! The reality is that we could write an entire book on this topic and still not give numeric answers that work. Every image is different. Some photos won’t look good no matter how high the resolution or how big the file size. Conversely, we’ve created a few gorgeous canvases from pictures shot with lowly low-res camera-phones. The point is that most of the time things work out great without anyone having to read a dissertation on the topic.
