What research is underway to cure Lysosomal Disease?
In the past decade, there have been great strides in treating lysosomal disorders. Universities, medical centers, private businesses, and government organizations, such as The National Institutes of Health (NIH), continually conduct research to understand, treat, and cure Lysosomal Disease. Currently, much of the research being done focuses on cell and bone marrow transplantation, enzyme replacement therapy, and on gene therapy. Since Lysosomal Disease is inherited, there is great hope that the field of gene therapy will provide a cure in the near future for this devastating family of diseases.
