What research is taking place in Canada to treat and cure prostate cancer?
Several of the world’s leading specialists are located in Canada and there has been significant research work here. Government funding for prostate cancer research has been significantly lower than that for other diseases with similar, or lesser, impacts such as breast cancer and AIDS. In February 1999, the federal government identified $5 million to be available over five years for prostate cancer research initiatives on a nation-wide basis. Over the last two years, the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada has granted research awards totalling $2.5 million for projects across the country.
