At the Marie Curie Research Institute a team led by Dr Colin Goding is trying to understand how the genetic changes found in malignant melanoma result in the transformation of a normal pigment cell to an aggressive rapidly dividing cancer cell. Recently, scientists at the Marie Curie Research Institute published a major paper showing that malignant melanoma cells can be put into a permanent coma’ (senescence) in the test tube.
