Mustard oil, also known as ALLYISOTHOICYANATE. When we bought our ’rather neglected’ log cabin in Northern Florida, we had the largest spiders, I have ever seen. The bodies were about the size of a nickle and with legs outstretched they measured 2 to 3’ across. The house was also infested with Palmetto bugs, a nice name for giant roaches. Our exterminator said that the toxin he sprays all around the baseboards every three months will only kill bugs that groom themselves. Although it’s safe for humans and household pets, when a bug walks through the dried spray, it will stick to their feet and they’ll ingest it when they groom. Spiders do not groom themselves. It takes a direct hit to kill a spider….be it with bug killer or the fly swatter. One thing spiders hate is mustard oil. It’s the natural ingredient that makes horseradish hot.
