What religion does merlin and excalibur belong to? ?
Excalibur was a sword. Swords and other inanimate objects don’t have religion. Merlin is usually pictured as a Christian. In a passage in the early part of the “Prose Lancelot” it is stated that Merlin was never christened and was full of a kinds of perverse knowledge. (But his religion is not given.) However, in Robert de Boron’s “Merlin”, Merlin, though begotten by a devil to be a sort of anti-Christ, was Christened, and so gained normal human free will to choose good or evil, and he mostly chose the good. He was also, given, by God, the power to forsee the future. He then created the Round Table and worked as an adviser to the Kings of Britain. His part in arranging the begetting of Arthur is recognized by Merlin as a sin, which he repents of. It is this Merlin, who is mentioned in the “Quest of the Holy Grail” as the creator of the Round Table and the prophet of the Grail.
