What religion did the Arabs practice before Mohammad came?
Lot of them passed through the region, yes polytheistic paganism but also Zoroastrianism and the many religions of Mesopotamia that were brought in by different peoples. Because of the location and the Tigris and Euphrades rivers, it was a very popular place and people came from all over, bringing their religions with them. Check out the Enuma elish, King Sargon, Hammurabi.
They weren’t really “Arabs” in the sense of the modern-day word, but more like tribes and clans of different “houses” and family descendant lines. As Walty said, in Mecca, they were mainly polytheistic pagans who worshiped trade-beneficial Gods made of different materials, including stone, animal bone, and wood. Mecca depended heavily on the craravan trade route between the “El-Sham” (modern day Lebanon, Syria and Palestine) in the north, and Hadramut (modern day Yemen) in the south, and the worship of these false dieties helped bring in money to the city. But there were also Christians and Jews living in Mecca and Medina at that time too. The Jewish tribes mainly occupied the city of Yathrib (modern day Medina).
before coming of Muhammed sb in a Arab state none were as impressive as Mohammad sb. not only in Arab bt in all world even not a single person who can believed on God or their Angels they believed only application life.IN that era there was lots bad customs adopted by Arab e.g. burried the girls alive in the grave.to pleased thre God that was the bad thinking as i heared.that time people believed on the statue and worship them. in which family Muhammad sb born thats family were also following thats rediculous customs.Muhammad sb uncle named Abujahl didnt follow the aspect and princple of them. really before coming of muhammad sab all were so innocent about the motive of life they dont know on which basis we ‘ve to passed their life bt when Muhammad sb came and teach to all the Arabians thats why they became capable to choose the right way ..
