What recycling facilities are available on campus, and what percentage of waste is recycled?
We have introduced recycling facilities for glass, cardboard and paper at all residential colleges and an initiative has been set up to provide and collect clear plastic sacks for students to use for their recyclable rubbish. All newly built student accommodation on campus has recycling provision in the kitchens, and at a corporate level we have long recycled glass, paper and cardboard; we also have schemes for recycling computers, electrical goods and batteries. We continue to promote recycling strongly throughout the University. In 2007-8 we recycled 105 tonnes of cardboard, 260 tonnes of glass, 168 tonnes of paper, 780kg of used batteries, 16.5 tonnes of waste electrical equipment (including 42 refrigerators and 396 CRT monitors), 3.5 tonnes of clothing and 17.2 tonnes of other mixed recycling material. In addition, printer/toner cartridges and used lamps and tubes were sent for recycling but quantitative data was not recorded. From August 2008 we will be weighing our general waste
