What Recent Law Has The Government Of Treviso Promulgated In Northern Italy?
As amusing as it sounds, the government of Treviso has promulgated a recent law according to which all the Chinese restaurants of Treviso need to remove the lanterns that are adorning their restaurants. The reason given for this legal implication was that the lanterns gave quite an ‘oriental’ epithet to the ambience. Sergio Marton, who is the head of the council’s town planning department, further stated that the lanterns were contributing towards spoiling the appearance of the city. Even all those lions and dragons that the Chinese embellish their restaurants with, it is going a long way in ruining the appearance of the city, thanks to its overly oriental impact. The statement of Marton was further espoused by deputy mayor Giancarlo Gentilini’s words who went to the extent of declaring that Treviso is a city of Veneto and Padania (names of areas) in lieu of being an oriental city that the Chinese restaurants are trying to make it like.
