the last answer is funny bc technically society’s ‘moral values’ are the basis of all laws–e.g., thou shalt not kill, steal etc. these values are all encoded in are laws OK reasons: so we want to legislate it bc it presents problems to society. One purpose of laws is to protect society. 1-Psychological: As defined by American Psychiatric Association, pathological gambling is an impulse control disorder that is a chronic and progressive mental illness. 2-Biological: According to the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery Recent evidence indicates that pathological gambling is an addiction similar to chemical addiction. 3-Relation to other problems: As debts build up people turn to other sources of money such as theft, or the sale of drugs.
