The Associated Press reports that Dr. John Rew has plead guilty on charges of writing illegal prescriptions. Brian “Crush” Adams was one of Dr. Rew’s patients and was prescribed painkillers by him. Adams died in 2007 from a painkiller overdose. The 83-year-old physician faces up to 20 years in prison and a possible $1 million fine. Federal authorities say Rew, a licensed pain management doctor, prescribed more medication than his patients could safely ingest. He’s accused of failing to adequately ask about patients’ medical conditions and complaints. His plea agreement also says he failed to conduct proper physical exams or tests to determine a patient’s level of oxycodone. In March, federal agents raided Rew’s W Busch Boulevard pain management clinic and removed computers and patient files. Rew had been prescribing narcotics to patients out of his strip mall office since 2002. The retired anesthesiologist had been in the business of pain management since the mid 1970s.
