What really is the goal of recycling programs?
The goal is to stop taking from the earth. What we have in circulation (of ores, plastics, paper) now is MORE than enough to sustain our population. We have such resources rotting in mile high garbage piles. We do not need to keep taking trees for paper, oils for plastic, and ores from the earth. If we were to take these resources from the garbage piles and from what we throw away, melt them down and reuse them as new products, we would not need to take from the earth. The earth has a very finite supply of our much-needed resources. If we keep taking, we will run out and not have enough time to implement a recycling program rigorous enough to save ourselves from desperation. Of course, the earth recycles things on it’s own but it cannot recycle the resources that we need at a rate that meets the rate that we use them. The earth recycles EXTREMELY slowly. We do it much faster. If we do it ourselves instead of straining the earth, we can sustain ourselves without emptying the earth. Does
