No rat is good for someone aged 1. Rats are small, and if squeezed, sat on or stepped on will die. Rats are too small, and not suited for young children. As they find it fun to squeezed, pull on. If you pull a rats tail it can do damage. For the sake of the rat, and the 1 year old, do not get a rat. Stick to plush toys for children at young ages.
