What qualities distinguish low water absorption fireclay?
Especially important, apart from the low hue and calibre dispersion, is its good performance in freezing conditions, due to its low water absorption and high resistance to bending. This last point means that with the same thickness, a fireclay tile will always be more resistant as it has a higher breaking strength than a tile with less vitrification. However, the manufacture of fireclay is not an easy task. The best clays must be used with a higher temperature in the firing and for a longer period of time. This implies a higher raw materials cost, higher energy costs and greater use of the manufacturing capacity.
