What qualities define a great team leader?
I’ve had the pleasure of working for dynamic people throughout my life. Surprisingly, I saw no real difference between the military leaders and the civilian leaders! It may be counter-intuitive, but despite the widely disparate goals and cultures, there were key elements that all the good leaders shared. The most important was their ability to generate honest loyalty. The methods may differ – and WILL differ – from person to person. What counts is this singular result: We, the team, trusted and willingly followed their directions, corrections, and criticisms. We did it because they took care of us fairly, worked us honestly, respected us equally, and lead us unflinchingly. We did it because there was no greater acomplishment then doing a job well for its’ own sake, and our paychecks were then merely bonuses to the intangible rewards.
