What qualities define a great team leader?
A great team leader is someone who can listen. You must be able to listen to your team and actually hear what they say. If you just tell everyone what to do, your team will begin to resent you and you will not accomplish your potential. A great team leader honors the thoughts of his/her peers. S/he regards them as equals and makes sure their opinions are heard. Being a team leader can be compared to ruling a country. All of the members must be acknowledged in order to avoid rebellion and do what’s best for everyone. People get so frustrated with their leaders because they feel their voices are not being heard. Yes, a ruler has to be authoritative in order to gain respect, but, like any team leader, s/he has a responsibility to act on behalf of the greater good.
A leader has integrity & character; he/she says say what they mean and do what they promise to do. They are the same behind closed doors as they are in public or with people. A leader treats people with respect and never talk down to anyone, regardless of their status. A leader is a problem solver who takes the suggestions of the team into account. A leader gives credit where credit is due and doesn’t steal the thunder of subordinates. A leader knows how to attract the right people on his/her team.
The only thing that differs a team leader and follower is CONFIDENCE, and how you use your confidence to gain others confidence towards you, As you gain others confidence, RESPONSIBILITY follows together, and as a leader you must also learn how to use and control your power!!! UNDERSTANDING is another quality that many leaders lack, to reach success you must not walk or run, but you must stride towards it, walking will make it too far to reach and running will make you blind towards what others are doing, you cannot walk in front and expect one to follow you but you must walk together and lead them!!!!
