What qualities define a great team leader?
Not the same qualities for every situation. Variables, depending on the team itself. For example, a leader may be considered “great” with one unit but might fail miserably with another. Having said that, I think the necessary qualities would include, but not be limited to: empathy, outstanding listening skills (i.e. knowing what is meant rather than what is said), getting one’s hands dirty with the rest of the team; courage and a wonderful sense of humor.
One who looks out for the welfare of his/her team above them self – He/she would be proficiently knowledgeable to in whatever they are leading – A good listener and open to suggestions – Courage to do the right thing in time of test – Know their own limitations and the limitations of their team – Push themselves and their team in order to lessen limitations – And most importantly, one who leads by example
You have to be a good role model for people and provide information that is accurate. That is what the world needs now a days, there is a difference between being a team leader and being a good team leader. The way a team is led will have a major impact upon the success or otherwise of the team. When asked what they want from a team leader, team members will often identify several values they would want a leader to hold : ~commitment to people as well as task is the first key element. ~desire to support and serve the team as well as lead from the front. enthusiasm, energy, inspiration and sufficient expertise. ~willingness to shoulder responsibility rather than pass the buck ~ability to make the team come together to achieve more than a group of individuals. Commitment to people- Most team members are primarily concerned about relationship and about being valued as a team member, before they are concerned about the task that the team is to undertake. Feeling secure in a group environme
An ability to be understanding, an ability to balance kindness and strength… If you get yourself leverage, you can help yourself lead a team, for example, if you are famous, you are afforded more attention, if you pay them your team will also be willing to put up with more; give a bonus and they will follow you to the deepest coal mines or the highest peaks. Without additional leverage, you may not reach your highest potential. Ronald Reagan used his acting as leverage to rule a nation. Arnold Shwartenneggar used his acting to lead a State and countless ex-presidents used thier military carrears as leverage to hold the highest Team Leader position in the world. Without leverage do you really think Arnold Shwartenneggar would really be govener? He is just one example.
