What qualifies a Massage Therapist to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia?
There are strict rules & regulations to become a Certified Massage Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. • First you must complete training with an accredited college with a program providing a minimum of 500 hours of instruction. Education includes physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition and ethics courses, as well has intensive hours of hands on instruction and supervision. • A graduate of one of these schools must then pass the NCBTMB exam. • After successfully passing the exam, an application for licensure must be submitted to the Virginia Board of Nursing, the regulatory agency for Massage Therapists. • Then business licenses must be obtained in the counties and/or cities that the therapist will be practicing in.
