What qualifications must a home designer meet in order to draw a set of plans?
A home designer is not required any college degree. But, in order for a home designer to be legit, he/she must have some prior vo-tech training as a draftsman. The difference between a legit Designer and a wannabe designer is this; One house is buildable, the other is NOT. Another thing to look for is association with a well known organization. American Institute of Building Designers is the organization for Home designers and requires approval from other members before being accepted. National Association of Home Builders is another one. Be sure to check references before buying plans from an unknown designer.
