What qualifications make a good police officer?
“As a police officer, you have to be totally dedicated to your job. I had to sacrifice. I had to make a commitment to work weekends, Christmas, and hack it out, apply a lot of common sense. Youve got to be very fair, and be able to make split decisions.” Q: How do county and local police differ? “On a day-to-day basis, the municipalities take care of their own policing. If there was some huge drug raid wed all work together. Other than the state police, we are the only one in the hill towns.” Q: How much cooperation is there between the county and the municipalities? “A lot. We work very closely. There are ten police agencies in Albany County, plus the Sheriffs department, the NYS police, and the SUNY police. We are very unique in this regard, and I preach this all the time when Im out there.
