What qualifications do stewards require?
All clubs are required by their safety certificates to train their stewards to a nationally recognised standard. The Football Association, Premier League and Football League have joined forces to launch the Football Stewarding Qualification (FSQ) – football’s own national stewarding award. Training to this standard is therefore compulsory, but clubs do not have to use the FSQ, there is also a NVQ in Spectator Control, which would be acceptable to the safety authorities. Action can be taken by The FA against the supporters of either team involved in a match.
