What qualifications do i need for bookkeeping and financial statement preparation jobs?
Assuming you have no prior experience in accounting, most employers will be looking for a bachelors in accounting. Being a CPA would probably be overkill, but in this job market, a CPA may very well take a bookkeeping job just to be employed. In a better job market, you might have been able to get by with just a two year accounting degree from a community college and find a job. Getting a 4 year degree is never a waste of time or money if you can afford to do so. Even if it means going to school at night while you work at an accounting job during the day, do it.
