The idea is not to have a “hotter” spark, but a more complete burn. An MSD ignition stands for multiple spark discharge. In other words, instead of just sparking the plug once on the power stroke, it fires many times. In theory, this should burn the fuel more completely. A magneto is just an ignition that uses no points. Usually it fires from sensors instead of from a so-called distributor. What kind of car are we talking about here????? Most modern cars have a high voltage spark and a disributor-less ignition and the spark is controlled by computer.
