What public processes have taken place?
The process to develop the current riverfront plan began in 1992 when Mayor Vars appointed the Riverfront Enhancement Task Force. One of their first acts was to conduct a city-wide survey soliciting citizen input on how the riverfront should be used. The task force and later the Riverfront Commission conducted a series of four day-long workshops and many open house sessions as they developed overall goals and conceptual ideas for the riverfront. In December 1996, the Riverfront Commission presented a draft park master plan to the City Council. Following a public hearing, the City Council adopted the park master plan with ten amendments. The Council also authorized the formation of the Design Review Committee which held meetings open to the public as they worked to refine the design.
