What provision is available for staff away for less than three months?
The MRC allows the use of the salary element of an MRC award to provide sick pay to members of staff supported on an MRC award, so long as the member of staff fulfils the qualifying conditions of the employing Research organisation for statutory sick pay. However for sick leave under three months, MRC will not consider claims for any additional funds associated with sick leave i.e. for a replacement member of staff or to ask for the award to be extended to compensate for the sick leave period, unless the person on sick leave is disabled for the purposes of the Disability Discrimination Act, then a shorter period could be discussed.
