(Updated 7/11/08) Effective with 835 Remittance Advices generated for vouchers after 6/23/2008 there are two possible NPI related changes. The Provider Summary Information in Loop 2000 – HEADER NUMBER element TS301 will have either an HFS provider number or NPI. The Service provider name in Loop 2100 – CLAIM PAYMENT INFORMATION elements NM108 and NM109 will have either the HFS provider number or the NPI. If the claim was submitted with an NPI, an NPI will be reported in the 835 Remittance Advice. If the claim was submitted with the HFS legacy number, the HFS number will be reported. With the exception of Atypical providers, all other providers were required to submit their claims with NPIs after May 23, 2008.
