What protective equipment do i need for welding cast-iron?
For “personal protective equipment” you’ll need welder’s gloves with high heat resistance and long cuffs. You’ll also need a flip-up / flip-down viewing shield, typically a full-face and throat covering with a small rectangular viewing port covered with appropriately tinted (normally opaque) glass. You’ll probably want a full set of leathers for your upper body and depending on your position, you may even want leather coverings for your legs (definitely so if you’ll be kneeling or reclining to make a weld “in position”, and you might then have your thighs horizontal, for example). Since most of the welding I’m exposed to is on construction sites where the workers wear welding helmets / face shields that attach to hard hats, I neglected to mention head protection as well, taking that as a given (same as long sleeved work shirts and full-length heavy duty trousers and adequate footwear). If you’re welding in a shop environment, you may need some other head covering to protect your own sc
