What protections will be in place for the historic properties?
The transfer of property from the Navy is called an “undertaking” under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. The federal agency, in this case the U.S. Navy, is required to meet its obligations under the law and to comply with Section 106 (please see http://www.achp.gov/106summary.html for more information on Section 106).
