What Protections do Oil Rig Workers Have?
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is responsible for regulating the safety on oil rigs. However, OSHA has been criticized by several groups – including the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee – for its allegedly lax approach to such a dangerous industry. Legal action is always an option for injured workers and their families. Under the Jones Act and other maritime laws, workers may be able to recover compensation for their injuries. Unfortunately, the complexity of maritime law and the high-powered legal teams employed by oil companies make it difficult for workers to file lawsuits without the assistance of an experienced oil rig attorney.
