What programs and supports are available for children who need additional help?
There are several programs available which may be appropriate for your child. If your child is struggling with school, it is important that you, your child’s teachers and other professionals work together to help him become successful. Contact your child’s school to ask about any of the following: Student Study Team (SST): This is a team of parents, teachers and others that meets to identify the students obstacles to success and to develop strategies for overcoming those obstacles. It is usually the first step in providing special help. Title I: This is a federally-funded program available at some of our schools. Most Title I support involves help with reading and math but can involve after-school programs, summer school, and other supports. Individual Education Plan (IEP): If a student is eligible for specially designed instruction because of a disability, a team including you will meet to write an IEP for the student. The student usually spends most of his/her time in the regular cla
