When Sojourner Truth House opened in 1997, the Sisters came with attentive ears, listening to and learning what the community needed most. From this, they developed programs and services that include: • Computer Training • Life Skills • Parenting Classes • Clothes Closet • Advocacy • Counseling • Networking with Social Agencies • Drop-in center for women and children with phones, laundry, shower facilities and a food pantry • Health Screenings and Referrals In the future, Sojourner Truth House will be offering: • Temporary housing for homeless women and children All of the services are geared towards empowering the women and children of Gary, which in turn will have a ripple effect into the community.
