Angels select Randal Grichuk & Michael Trout in 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Angels selected outfielder Randal Grichuk of Lamar Consolidated High School in Lamar, TX as their first pick (1st round, 24th overall) and outfielder Michael Trout of Millville (NJ) Senior High School as their second pick (1st round, 25th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft conducted Tuesday by Major League Baseball. This announcement was made by Angels’ Director of Scouting Eddie Bane. Grichuk (pronounced gri-CHICK), 17, hit .613 (46/75) with 21 home runs and 46 RBI in 28 games in 2009. He walked 23 times and struck out just 11 times in 75 at-bats. As a junior, Grichuk was named to the 2008 4A All-State First team.
