What Produces Sperm?
Location Sperm is an essential part of the reproductive process. Men have millions of reproductive cells (sperm) stored in their testicles. During sexual intercourse, sperm is released and travels through the woman’s reproductive system. Of those millions of sperm, only one sperm fertilizes the woman’s egg and leads to the creation of a fetus. Not only do the testes store the sperm but they are also responsible for the production of sperm. Over the course of approximately 72 days, a sperm travels from the testes to the epididymis and then to the vas deferens for storage. Body Conditions Sperm is produced only under certain bodily conditions. The temperature within the testicles must remain three to five degrees Fahrenheit below body temperature. In order to achieve this, the testes receive help from the scrotum (the pouch that houses the testicles).
