What process was used to determine the site of a childrens centre?
The process was started in November 2005, with a consultation exercise going out to all nursery education providers, voluntary/community groups through the community services networks, schools (Headteachers and Chairs of Governors), health colleagues, district councils as well as partners within Hampshire County Council. Part of this exercise was the opportunity for sites to put themselves forward as potential options for hosting a children’s centre. Sites were either not suitable or not willing to host a children’s centre gateway building. Once a potential site, or sites, were identified each was assessed against a set criteria and the assessments put forward to the Children’s Centres Board. There a site could receive approval to proceed subject to a successful feasibility study being carried out. If the feasibility study demonstrated fitness for purpose, value for money and was acceptable to the site owners, the project would move forward.
