What process is forming the Himalayan Mountains?

0

The Indo-Australian Plate is being pushed into the Eurasian Plate. The place where the two plates meet are currently buckling due to all the pressure . As the two plates squeeze together they cause the crust there to thicken, so the part at the surface rises in elevation, but also the bottom is also getting deeper. The two plates will eventually merge to form one plate and the tectonic process will stop, and the long, slow process of erosion will begin to wear away the mountain range.

Yep. As others said before me, the Indo-Australian Plate is now pushing beneath the Eurasian Plate. Of course, over time the former plate will move under the Eurasian Plate & I think the Himalayas will collapse upon themselves, which was the case for the Andes Mountains.
