What problems does a democracy face if people do not vote?

We are having that problem now. Obama wasn’t elected because the majority of Americans wanted him as president. He was elected because many Republicans and independent voters realized their choice was between 2 liberal candidates and therefore did not vote. Their failure to vote resulted in Obama’s election. So now we have a liberal socialist in the white house who wants to “fundamentally transform” this country from a free market democracy where people have the option of determining their own destiny, and replacing it with a form of government that takes away our choice and decides for us. We are also experiencing the solution to this problem. Those who didn’t vote last time now see the results of their apathy and are mobilizing in record numbers to vote out those who would take away their freedom and replace them with conservatives who will protect our rights.
