What problems can a bad a/c thermostat cause?
Well there are a few things that are happening here. To me it sounds like your coil is freezing up. This can be caused by a under charge of refidgerent or not enough fan speed passing thru the coil, or a restriction of air flow (bad filter). The first thing I would change is get that thermostat relocated away from the floor vent. Your house will always be hot in the summer and cold in the winter being that the T-stat will get the best performance of your cooling and heating system being where it is. Secondly, on a warm day 80degrees take a thermometer and measure the return air and supply air temp at the furnace. The diffrence should be more then 15 but less then 20. Any higher then 20 and there isnt enough of a margin to avoid a freeze up. If its more then 20 you need more fan speed, less then 15 you need less fan speed. Now this also all depends if the AC unit was set up with the right emount of refridgerent. As for your units compressor tripping the breaker. Chances are whats happen
