Firefox, even now that it has reached version 2 for Mac OS X, does not use a very good text engine. Its treatment of Unicode Greek fonts is erratic, and it works best if you stick to a system font as default. An even more serious defect is the poor interaction between the Firefox 2 clipboard and MS Word 2004. If you try to copy any extended piece of Unicode Greek text from the TLG web site and then past that clipping into a MS Word 2004 document, Word (which also has an antiquated and inferior text engine) does not even recognize that there is anything in the clipboard to insert. Oddly enough, you can work around this by pasting the passage into a TextEdit document, copying it from TextEdit, and then pasting it into Word 2004. The problem does not occur with Word 2008. The problem with Word 2004 will disappear when Firefox 3 is released. Since Diogenes (version 3) piggybacks on Firefox, some previous versions showed the same problem, and the same workaround applied to it. But version 3
