There was also a Jacques Cartier who was a businessman and politician in Lower Canada in the late 18th and early 19th century. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada in 1804 and reelected in 1804. His grandson, George-Étienne Cartier, was a French-Canadian statesman and is considered to be the Father of Confederation.
