It really depends on location and the packages you want. The typical KBB private party values are going to be in the $16-$18K range. However, demand is fairly low for these cars (fun to drive, but underpowered and love it or hate it styling). Dealers here in SoCal are selling them for $1-$2K below private party value, and much more than that below retail value. Don’t be afraid to negotiate, and be aware of what your own resale value will be like. (I’m a Mazda 6S owner – absolutely love the car, but I have no illusions about resale – this is not a Honda/Toyota).

There are two ways to check this on-line (at least). Go to yahoo.autos and find selling price for one. Also check buying price. That should put you in the ball park for your area.
