Current research from Oman, Morocco, Tanzania, and Egypt suggests that the short-term (up to 2 years) incidence of a good outcome of bilamellar tarsal rotation (BTR) surgery is approximately 80%. Recent evidence from Oman suggests that the longer-term successful outcome (4-5 years) of BTR is around 50%. The high rate of poor outcomes has contributed to the low uptake of trichiasis surgery. From existing studies there is inadequate information to determine the reasons for the poor there is inadequate information to determine the reasons for the poor outcomes. There has been no prospective study of the long-term outcome of trichiasis surgery and the factors that predict a good or a poor outcome. We are determining the long-term outcome (at 3 years and at 4 years) of patients who have had BTR surgery in a routine trichiasis surgery setting. Furthermore, we are determining the pre-operative and intra-operative clinical characteristics that predict recurrence of trichiasis. This is a longit
