What powers do Scottish Ministers have in relation to the Inquiry?
The powers of Scottish Ministers in relation to the Inquiry are set out in the Inquiries Act 2005. Apart from the general power to establish the Inquiry, the main powers given to Ministers by the Act include the determination of the remuneration of members of the Inquiry team and the imposition of certain conditions on the awards of expenses that can be made by the chairman. Such a determination was made by Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, on 27 April 2009, and may be viewed here.
