What powers do accredited persons have?
Powers made available to accredited persons under The Police Reform Act 2002, Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003 and more recently the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005. An up to date list of those powers available can be found at appendix d of the scheme guidance. Powers will be accredited on an inidividual basis, where a need and benefit has been established for that individual to exercise a specific power.
The powers are set out in Schedule 5 of the Police Reform Act 2002, as amended by the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 and the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001. Not all accredited persons will have the same powers. Powers will only be granted if they are appropriate to the role that is being performed. They must also comply with local needs, policies and priorities.
