What position does Sasol Mining occupy as a coal producer in South Africa?
Sasol Mining is now South Africa’s fourth-largest coal producer after Anglo Coal, BHP Billiton Coal South Africa and Exxaro. Sasol Mining is South Africa’s fifth-largest coal exporter. We applied for phase five allocation at Richards Bay Coal Terminal, but we were not successful. Although Igoda Coal is a company with 35% black ownership, there were several companies that had a greater percentage of black ownership. But we don’t see failure to obtain phase five export allocation as a major setback. We are looking at other ways of growing our market by making greater use of our fine coal.
