What political reasons was the tsar/nicholas 2 overthrown for?
He tried to avoid revolution by ignoring the peasants (who were a massive majority in Russia) – whilst the signs of trouble were growing, he was retreating into the past, for example, he made his courtiers wear the clothes worn during the reign of Tsars 300 years earlier. Obviously, the peasants didn’t like their ruler ignoring all of the country’s problems, and by the time nicholas 2nd had noticed things were going wrong, it was rather too late. Basically, the poor didn’t like their ruler getting richer and richer whilst they saw no improvements. The tsar lacked the skills and motivation needed to bring Russia into the 20th century (in fact, it could be argued Russia was still, in many ways, back in the 18th century), and he made little effort to initiate the necessary social, political, and economic reforms needed. When communism came along, he could not fight it, because he hadn’t seen it coming, and he hadn’t done anything for Russia that would win him much mass support.
