What pneumococcal conjugate vaccines are available in the US?
In February 2010, the FDA licensed a new vaccine for the prevention of pneumococcal disease in children – pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, Prevnar 13® (Pfizer). Prevnar 13®, or PCV13, is a vaccine which covers 13 pneumococcal serotypes, which cause the majority of pneumococcal infections in young children. PCV13 replaces the previous version of Prevnar®, known as PCV7, which includes 7 pneumococcal serotypes.
