What PMP devices can I install Linux on?
(In case some Askville users aren’t familiar with PMP devices, PMP is most commonly an abbreviation for Portable Media Player – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_media_player) There are actually a lot of portable devices that either already run Linux, or can run Linux. The list of devices keeps growing, so a comprehensive list would be very long, so I’ll cover some of the popular ones. Also the line that separates a PMP from a UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) is getting fuzzier every day. PMPs are getting more features besides media playback such as Web browers and UMPCs are shrinking in size. Some smart phones such as the iPhone have features previous only found in cell phones, PMPs and UMPCs. If you already have a PMP where someone has already packaged a Linux distribution for, then it would be the least expensive option. However, if you don’t already have a PMP, consider buying one that already runs Linux. The big advantage to buying a Linux-based PMP is that Linux drivers are available f
