Pop star Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, who made her London stage debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago, will reprise her performance for New York audiences when she joins the Broadway cast of the Tony-winning Kander and Ebb musical later this month. Simpson-Wentz will begin performances at Broadway’s Ambassador Theatre Nov. 30. She will play a limited engagement as the merry murderess through Feb. 7, 2010. “I’m honored to be reprising my role as Roxie Hart, returning to the stage and joining this amazing cast,” said Simpson-Wentz in a statement. “Being on Broadway is a childhood dream come true.” Simpson-Wentz’s albums include “Autobiography,” “I Am Me” and “Bittersweet World.” Her TV appearances include “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Saved by the Bell,” and a recurring role for two years on the WB’s “7th Heaven.” The singer-actress also starred in MTV’s “The Ashlee Simpson Show.” Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton
Ashlee Simpson has dumped her guitarist boyfriend Braxton Olita and fallen for Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. The 21-year-old was spotted kissing Wentz on Saturday night in the VIP section of a New York City club. Simpson’s representative has confirmed to American publication Us Weekly that former couple have gone their separate ways saying, “(They) broke up about a week ago. They decided to take a break.” A source close to Simpson says, “Ashlee has been telling everyone that she’s over Braxton,” adding that Wentz recently dumped his girlfriend, Buffy The Vampire star Michelle Trachtenberg in order to be with Simpson. Simpson’s relationship with Olita had previously caused problems with her father Joe, who discouraged his daughter from moving in with the musician earlier this year. The pop singer who was recently booted from “Melrose Place,” is set to play Roxie Hart in the long-running musical revival of “Chicago.” Producer Barry Weissler says Simpson-Wentz will join the production on Nov. 30 for a 10-week engagement ending in early February.
