What Plants to Use to Make a Mantle Topiary?
Just as with any form of art, topiary–living plant sculpture– comes in many shapes and sizes. Topiary can be formed by pruning alone, by pruning and training or by planting into forms fashioned with wire armatures filled with sphagnum moss or other growing media. Small potted topiaries are ideal to display indoors on a mantle or shelf. Some people think of mantle topiary as the impatient gardener’s bonsai.
